It’s been two months since the heartbreaking deaths of dear José and Liso, the sweet, elderly ex-circus lions killed by evil criminals in their new sanctuary home we built in their native Africa. ADI responded with heavyweight security (no details; criminals check the web) and an expert-led investigation to catch the murderers of our family. Everything’s progressing well, but it is not enough. This is now personal. Once José and Liso’s killers are in jail, there are all the other vulnerable animals in sanctuaries. So, we’re announcing the new José & Liso Anti-Poaching Fund, raising $100,000/£80,000 to support creation of new dedicated anti-poaching units to catch the poachers and protect the animals.
‘An Evening Honoring Animals’, a special ADI fundraiser held on Sunday, July 23 2017 was hosted by ADI champions Dr. Lo Sprague & Rev. Dr. Gwynne Guibord in their beautiful Los Angeles home.
During the evening, guests heard from ADI founders Jan Creamer and Tim Phillips about the newly formed José and Liso Anti-Poaching Fund which supports a dedicated anti-poaching unit to find those responsible for the deaths of José and Liso, two of ADI’s rescued lions who were killed by poachers at Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa, which also helps to protect other animals vulnerable to poaching.
Friend of ADI Moby made this special plea filmed by Lisa Karlan of JaneUnchained.com.
Rev. Dr. Guibord also shared news of an upcoming PSA to be produced by The Guibord Center, an interfaith organization, in partnership with ADI that will promote compassion for animals.
At the event, guests enjoyed assorted vegan wines sponsored by Frey Vineyards Organic Wine and craft brews by Lagunitas Brewing Company while they relaxed on lounge seating donated by Overstock.com. A bag of goodies for guests to take home included chocolate peanut butter cups by Justin’s, Lush Cosmetics bath bombs, and a set of Pulse wireless headphones by Rowkin.
Our thanks to Dr. Lo Sprague & Rev. Dr. Gwynne Guibord for hosting the event, and underwriting the cost, to our sponsors, andto everyone who attended including our volunteers, and also to Sylvia Lin & Eric Lee, Ady Gil, Patty Shenker and Doug Stoll, and Jan McGill, whose generosity helped kick-start fundraising efforts supporting ADI’s anti-poaching fund.
